Innovating the way pumps handle the harshest applications

Where other pumps fail, Discflo pumps excel

In severe applications where abrasion, viscosity, entrained air, excessive wear, and corrosion problems wreak havoc on pump systems, Discflo has developed a superior alternative. Our patented pump technology dramatically reduces pump wear, is virtually clog free, and prevents product damage.

Discflo Corporation was founded in 1982 and quickly became an industry leader in the hard-to-pump market and throughout the world. Discflo disc pumps provide non-impingement pumping, which means less wear and more protection for your product.

What is the Discflo Difference?

Discflo Discpac in various sizes

What makes our pumps unique is our patented Discpac technology.

At the heart of every Discflo pump is a radically different approach to fluid movement. While traditional centrifugal pumps rely on impellers to chop, churn, and force fluid through—Discflo’s non-impingement pump design uses smooth, parallel discs called the Discpac which operates on the fluid dynamic principles of boundary layer and viscous drag to gently pull the fluid through the pump.

How does it work?

Our patented Discpac consists of one or more precision-machined discs mounted on the pump shaft, with carefully set spacing to maintain boundary-layer flow.

The non-impingement and laminar flow pumping of our disc pump is similar to flow through an ordinary pipe. The layers of fluid at the walls are stationary (relative to the rotating discs), creating a protective boundary layer. Viscous drag pulls layers into flows of smooth laminar streams.

With no impingement device to damage your product, and a boundary layer of protection for the pump, the Discflo disc pump effectively eliminates the root cause of clogging, cavitation, excessive wear and product damage that plague the performance of conventional pumps.

The rotating discs transfer momentum to the fluid by viscous drag rather than direct impact or centrifugal force, which eliminates damaging turbulence and shear; excellent for slurries, solids-laden, or fragile biological fluids.

Discflo boundary layer viscous drag technology

The Discflo Discpac provides non-impingement pumping, meaning less wear and more protection for your product.

Discflo pumps are reliable, efficient, and highly cost effective in handling tough applications. It simply lasts longer, requires fewer (if any) repairs, and doesn’t damage your product.

No Radial Loads

A boundary layer of fluid molecules collects and rotates with the discs.
This creates a natural, protective buffer that separates the pump from the fluid.

Non Pulsating, Laminar Flow

Through viscous drag, fluid is pulled through the pump without impingement. The boundary layer attracts and drags successive layers of fluid molecules
into layered flows of parallel streams. This is the simple principle of viscous drag,
and, in the Discflo disc pump, it is a powerful dynamic force that “pulls” the fluid
through the pump in a smooth, laminar, non-turbulent flow.

No Close Tolerances

The Discflo disc pump is not a centrifugal pump, positive displacement, gear, or lobe pump. Unique in design, our disc pump bridges the performance gaps and is capable of out-performing most conventional pumps in many applications.
